VibeFox Braintree for Adobe Commerce

Overview

VibeFox Braintree Gateway adds credit and debit card payments through Braintree (PayPal) to Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce. At the payment step the customer enters the card in the Braintree Drop-in UI, a secure form served by Braintree, right on the Magento checkout page, and clicks Place Order. The card number never reaches your store; the module only receives a one-time payment token. Magento places the order in Pending Payment and the module charges the card at once. The invoice and the order e-mail are created only after Braintree accepts the payment.

It suits stores with a Braintree merchant account that want card payments on their own checkout, with 3-D Secure 2 for Strong Customer Authentication in the EEA and UK. The module takes card payments only. It has no saved cards, subscriptions, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay or Google Pay buttons, no payments for orders created in the Admin and no Braintree webhooks: disputes and settlement declines are not synced to Magento.

Key features

Braintree Drop-in UI: the card form is shown inside the payment method on the standard Magento checkout, with the cardholder name, and loaded from Braintree only when the customer selects the method.

3-D Secure 2: Enabled (failed authentications are blocked) or Required (only payments with liability shift are accepted), with a server-side check of the payment token before the card is charged.

Sale or Authorize only: charge immediately, or reserve the funds and capture them later with the standard Magento Invoice and Capture Online, or release them with Void or Cancel.

Amount and currency check: the charged amount and currency are checked against the order. A charge in the wrong currency or amount is voided automatically, and the customer is not charged.

No double charges: a per-cart lock, single-use payment tokens and a journal of every Braintree request make sure a cart is never charged twice. If the card was charged but the order could not be completed, the customer completes it without a new charge.

Online refunds with Credit Memo: full and partial refunds through the standard Credit Memo of the invoice with Refund, in the environment (sandbox or live) of the payment. A full refund of a transaction that has not settled yet is done as a void.

Merchant account per currency: optional, for example EUR=account_eur, USD=account_usd. Zero-decimal currencies such as JPY and KRW are charged as whole amounts.

Standard Magento settings: all settings are on the standard Payment Methods configuration page, with separate sandbox and live credentials, encrypted private keys, countries and minimum and maximum order totals, a link from the order to the transaction in the Braintree Control Panel, and a log without keys or card data.

Requirements

Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce 2.4.6 to 2.4.9 (your own server or Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure; not Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service), PHP 8.1 to 8.4. A Braintree account with Merchant ID, Public Key and Private Key; 3-D Secure enabled for the account unless you switch it off. No webhook is needed. A VibeFox license key from vibefox.net (one key per domain).
