VibeFox Mollie for PrestaShop — Help

Requirements

PrestaShop: 8.0 to 9.x.

PHP: 8.0 or later. The module refuses to install on older PHP versions.

Shop currency: the cart currency must be one of the currencies supported by Mollie: AED, AUD, BGN, BRL, CAD, CHF, CZK, DKK, EUR, GBP, HKD, HUF, ILS, ISK, JPY, MXN, MYR, NOK, NZD, PHP, PLN, RON, SEK, SGD, THB, TWD, USD, ZAR. For other currencies the payment option is hidden at checkout. Which payment methods Mollie offers depends on the currency and your account.

Internet access to your shop: Mollie sends webhooks to your shop, so the site must be reachable from the internet. Without webhooks, orders are still created when the customer returns from Mollie.

Mollie account: you need the API keys from Mollie Dashboard > Developers > API keys. Test keys start with test_, live keys with live_. No other keys or secrets are needed. The payment methods themselves are enabled in your Mollie account.

VibeFox license key: bought on vibefox.net. One key works on one domain.

Installation

1. In the back office go to Modules > Module Manager and click Upload a module. Choose the module ZIP file.

2. When the upload finishes, click Configure, or find VibeFox Mollie Gateway in the module list later and click Configure.

3. Paste your VibeFox license key into License key in the license block at the top of the Configure page and click Activate (see License key).

4. Enter your test and live API keys (see Configuration). No webhook has to be configured in Mollie.

5. Turn on Enable/Disable and click Save. Leave Test Mode on until you have made a test payment, then turn it off.

On install the module creates two order statuses, Awaiting Mollie payment and Mollie payment on hold. PrestaShop offers a new payment module for all currencies, countries and customer groups. You can limit them in Payment > Preferences.

Configuration

All settings are on the module page: Modules > Module Manager > VibeFox Mollie Gateway > Configure. Each section has its own Save button, which saves the whole page. Above the fields the page warns you when Mollie is enabled but the API key of the current mode is empty, and when Mollie does not support the default currency of the shop. In both cases the payment option is hidden at checkout.

When you save, an API key that does not start with test_ or live_ followed by at least 30 letters and digits is not saved: an error is shown and the previously saved key is kept.

Checkout

Enable/Disable: Enable Mollie Gateway turns the payment option on or off. Default: off.

Title: the payment method title displayed to the customer during checkout. It is also the payment method name stored in the order. Default: Mollie. Required.

Description: the payment method description displayed to the customer during checkout. Default: Pay securely via Mollie.

API keys

Find your API keys in the Mollie Dashboard under Developers > API keys; the section links to that page. Test and live keys are separate.

Test Mode: uses the test API key for new payments. No real payments are processed. On the Mollie test checkout page you can choose the result of the payment. Customers see Test mode: no real payment will be made. under the payment option. Payments made in the other mode keep using the key of their own mode for status checks and refunds. Default: on.

Test API Key: your Mollie test API key (starts with test_).

Live API Key: your Mollie live API key (starts with live_).

Saved keys are never shown again. The field stays empty and shows Saved — leave empty to keep it. Type a new value only to change it.

Clear saved keys: tick a key and click Save to remove it. An empty field keeps the saved value.

Webhook: shows the webhook URL. No webhook setup is needed: the module sends this URL to Mollie with every payment. With friendly URLs it looks like https://your-shop/module/wcp_mollie_gateway/webhook, possibly with a language code. It must be reachable from the internet, otherwise orders are created only when the customer returns from Mollie.

Orders

Order Status After Payment: the order status set after a successful payment. The status is set in one step.

Processing: the order becomes Payment accepted (default).
Completed: the order becomes Delivered.

Bank transfers wait in Awaiting Mollie payment. Authorized payments and amount or currency mismatches go to Mollie payment on hold.

Advanced

Logging: writes API calls and webhooks to logs/molg_debug.log.php in the module folder. The file cannot be opened from the web. Errors and warnings are always logged, even when this is off. API keys and customer data are never logged. Default: off.

Log: shows the size and the latest entries of the log. Click Clear log to empty it.

Delete Data on Uninstall: when on, the module settings and its log are deleted when the module is uninstalled. Mollie payment IDs stored with orders, the refund records and the module's order statuses are always kept. Default: off.

Checkout

At the payment step the customer chooses the payment option (by default Mollie) and confirms. The module creates a Mollie payment for the cart total in the cart currency (JPY and ISK without decimals), with the description Order # and the cart number, and sends the customer to the Mollie hosted checkout. There the customer chooses one of the payment methods enabled in your Mollie account and pays. No order exists yet at this point.

Mollie webhooks carry no signature, only the payment ID. So the module never trusts a webhook as such: it accepts only payment IDs it created itself, reads the payment from the Mollie API with the key of the mode the payment was made in, checks that the payment belongs to the cart and compares the paid amount and currency with the cart total. The order is marked paid only after Mollie confirms it this way. The module handles these Mollie payment statuses:

paid: the payment was made. The order is created in the status of Order Status After Payment when the amount and currency match.
authorized: the payment was authorized but not captured. The order is created in Mollie payment on hold with a note; capture it in the Mollie Dashboard and the order is marked paid automatically.
open (bank transfer): Mollie waits for the money. The order is created in Awaiting Mollie payment and marked paid when Mollie receives the money.
open, pending: the payment is not finished yet. Nothing changes.
failed, expired, canceled: the latest payment attempt did not succeed. Without an order the customer can simply pay again; an order waiting for this payment is set to Payment error.
chargeback: Mollie reports a charged-back amount. A note is added and a paid order is put on hold.

When the customer comes back, the module checks the latest payment of the cart with the Mollie API the same way. A paid payment leads to the standard order confirmation page with Your payment with Mollie has been received. For a bank transfer the page shows Your order will be processed as soon as Mollie receives your bank transfer. If the order is on hold, the page shows We are confirming your payment with Mollie. The order will be updated automatically — please do not pay again. If the payment of an existing order failed or the order was cancelled, the page shows Your Mollie payment was not completed. Please contact us about this order.

If the payment was cancelled, failed, expired or not finished, the customer is back at checkout with a message, for example You cancelled the Mollie payment. You can try again or choose another payment method. or The Mollie payment has expired. Please try again or choose another payment method. The cart is kept. If Mollie cannot be reached or has not decided yet, a Payment confirmation page asks the customer not to pay again and offers a Check again button; the webhook creates the order as soon as it arrives.

When the customer pays again, the still-open Mollie payment of the same amount is reused instead of creating a second payable one. If the cart total changed, the old open payment is cancelled at Mollie when Mollie allows it. If the old payment was paid meanwhile, the order is created without a new payment.

If Mollie cannot start the payment, the customer stays at checkout with a short message, for example The payment provider could not be reached. Please try again in a moment., This payment method is temporarily unavailable. Please choose another payment method. (wrong API key) or Mollie cannot accept a payment of this amount or currency. Please choose another payment method. The technical reason is written to the log.

The webhook works while the shop is in maintenance mode and is not blocked by the country restriction of your shop.

The customer chooses the Mollie method on the Mollie page, not in your checkout. The module has no subscriptions or recurring payments, no saved cards or mandates, no card fields on your site, no Apple Pay or PayPal express buttons and no Orders API, so methods that need order lines (for example some Klarna, Billie or in3 variants) are not offered by Mollie for these payments. Authorized payments are captured or voided in the Mollie Dashboard, not from PrestaShop.

Orders and refunds

Order statuses

No order yet: the customer was sent to Mollie and has not paid, or Mollie has not confirmed the payment yet. Only the cart exists.

Payment accepted or Delivered: the payment was confirmed. The status follows Order Status After Payment. The payment is recorded with the Mollie payment ID (tr_...) as the transaction ID, and a note shows the Mollie payment, the method and the mode.

Awaiting Mollie payment: the customer chose bank transfer on the Mollie page. The order moves to the paid status when Mollie receives the money.

Mollie payment on hold: an authorized payment waits for capture, Mollie reported a chargeback, the paid amount or currency differed from the cart (for example, the cart was changed after the payment started), a test payment was paid while the shop is in live mode (no money was received), or the payment arrived after the order had been cancelled. The note explains it. Check the payment in the Mollie Dashboard, then process the order or refund the payment.

Payment error: a bank transfer or authorization of an existing order failed, expired or was cancelled. A paid order is never changed.

Refunded: the payment was fully refunded through the module.

If a second payment of the same cart is paid, the order is not changed. A note asks you to refund the duplicate payment in your Mollie Dashboard.

Mollie payment block

The order page shows a Mollie payment block with the Mollie payment ID, the method, the payment status, the amount paid and refunded, a Test mode badge for test payments, the refund history and the Mollie notes of the order. Notes are visible only in the back office.

Refunds

In the Mollie payment block enter the amount (the amount not refunded yet is filled in), optionally a reason, and click Refund via Mollie. Confirm the question Refund this amount through Mollie? This cannot be undone. Full and partial refunds are supported. You need the right to edit orders; access to the Modules pages is not needed. Refunds are made in the amount and currency Mollie charged, so after an amount mismatch you can refund up to what the customer actually paid, not the order total. The refund is sent for the payment that actually paid the order, with the API key of the mode it was made in, so that mode's key must be set. If Mollie rejects the refund, the block shows Mollie's error message and no refund is recorded. A successful refund is added to the refund history and the notes with the Mollie refund ID. A full refund sets the order to Refunded. A partial refund does not change the status. Refunds are available once Mollie has reported the payment as paid.

The module does not create credit slips. The standard PrestaShop refund buttons of the order page do not send money back through Mollie. Refunds created in the Mollie Dashboard are not shown on the order; a chargeback adds a note.

License key

The module works with a VibeFox license key from vibefox.net. The license block License — VibeFox Mollie Gateway is the first block on Modules > Module Manager > VibeFox Mollie Gateway > Configure, above the settings. Paste the key into License key and click Activate. After that the block shows the key masked, the status (for example the date the license is active until and your domain) and the buttons Check now to check the status again, Change key to enter another key and Remove key to remove the key from this shop. Below them are the line Product: presta-payment-mollie and the link Manage licenses and domains in your account, which opens your vibefox.net account. Only employees with the Configure permission for the module can change the key. The texts of the block follow the back office language (English and Russian are included).

If the key is not accepted, the block says why, for example Key not found, This key belongs to another product, Domain limit reached or License expired on a date. After the shop address changes, or after you free a domain slot in your account, click Check now. If the license server cannot be reached, the module keeps working on the last known status.

One key works on one domain: the domain of the main shop, also in a multistore setup. Removing the key from the shop does not free its domain slot. Free the slot in your vibefox.net account.

Without an active key, Mollie is not shown to customers at checkout. If a payment is started anyway, the customer sees This payment method is not available. Please choose another one. The PrestaShop storefront does not know that you are logged in to the back office, so the payment method is hidden for you too: you can set up the module before you buy a key, but not test it at checkout. A reminder appears in Modules > Module Manager on the Alerts tab. Existing orders are not affected: payments already started are still confirmed, and refunds work.

When a license expires, the module keeps working, but updates and support need a renewal. The status is checked again automatically while you work in the back office: once a day for the first 14 days after the key is entered, then once a week. No cron job is needed. Uninstalling or resetting the module always removes the license key and license status.

Troubleshooting

Mollie does not appear at checkout: check that the license is active, Enable/Disable is on and the current mode has an API key: Test API Key in test mode, Live API Key in live mode. Check that the cart currency is supported by Mollie. The settings page shows a warning for a missing key and for an unsupported shop currency. In Payment > Preferences check that the module is allowed for the cart currency, the customer's country and the customer's group.

The payment went through, but no order was created: the webhook cannot reach your shop. The URL shown in Webhook must be reachable from the internet (no basic authentication or firewall in the way). The order is also created when the customer returns to the shop after paying, or when the customer clicks Check again.

Webhook answers Unknown payment.: the payment was not created by this shop, or Mollie does not know it for the API key of its mode, for example a payment of another Mollie account.

Webhook answers Payment ID mismatch.: the payment does not belong to the cart it was created for. Nothing is changed.

Webhook answers Failed to fetch payment.: the Mollie API could not be reached, or the API key of the payment's mode is not set. Mollie retries the webhook later.

Webhook answers Temporarily unavailable.: the cart was being processed by another request at the same moment, or the order could not be created (for example, the module is disabled). Mollie retries the webhook. Turn on Logging to see the reason.

The webhook URL shows Method not allowed. in the browser: this is normal. The URL accepts only requests from Mollie.

An API key is not saved: the key must start with test_ or live_ followed by at least 30 letters and digits. Copy it again from the Mollie Dashboard.

The customer sees an error when choosing Mollie: look at the Log field on the module page. It shows the HTTP code and the Mollie message. 401 means a wrong API key; 422 points to a field of the request, for example an amount or currency Mollie does not accept.

The order is Mollie payment on hold: read the notes of the order (see Order statuses), then process the order or refund the payment.

Refund fails with a message about the mode: the payment was made in test or live mode, and the API key of that mode is not set. Enter it and try again.

Other currencies or payment data: developers can change the currency list with the actionWcpMollieSupportedCurrencies hook and the payment request with the actionWcpMolliePaymentData hook.

Uninstall

Go to Modules > Module Manager, open the menu next to VibeFox Mollie Gateway and choose Uninstall. The license key and license status of this module are always removed. If Delete Data on Uninstall is on, the module settings and the log are removed. If it is off, all settings are kept for a later re-install. The Mollie payment IDs and refund records and the order statuses Awaiting Mollie payment and Mollie payment on hold are always kept, so orders paid before can still be refunded after a re-install. Existing orders keep their payment notes and transaction IDs.
